FEBRUARY - MARCH 2023
It’s the month of love and as everyone ramps up to another relay of gifting, sentiment and passion, it’s also a marker that we are well into another exciting year ahead.
At SAA, this holds true in so many aspects. In addition, to our route launches to Windhoek, Victoria Falls and increased frequencies domestically, the airline is planning more exciting destinations in the year ahead.
And for SAA, it is all about a reinvigorated way of doing business, of putting our customers first, and building our offering around your travel needs.
A quick segue, given that it is the month of love, there is no better way to spend a break with your partner than on its fine beaches and azure sea of Mauritius, book your seat today.
There is love, and then there is love at first sight. That is what the world felt in 1968 when the very first Boeing 747 rolled off the production line. It was a world first and a landmark in technological advancement at the time, and SAA’s fleet became one of the first recipients of the aircraft that’s been dubbed the “Queen of the Skies”.
She has served billions of passengers well, and in South Africa, became an iconic and legendary symbol of air travel. It also helped set some records for speed and endurance of an aircraft – with non-stop flights from Seattle to Johannesburg and later, to Sydney.
The Boeing 747 was at some of our most important moments in history too, including the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela and the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
Now, fifty-five years later, the world said goodbye to the unmistakable aesthetic of the Boeing 747 as the final assembled aircraft rolled off the production line.
SAA interim chair and chief executive Professor John Lamola was at the Boeing facility in Seattle to say adieu on behalf of South Africa. It’s a giant part of SAA’s history, and the 747 will forever be in our hearts and minds.
Thank you for your continued support - we appreciate you!
Warm regards

STAR ALLIANCE
Star Alliance has been named the World’s Leading Airline Alliance at the World Travel Awards for the third consecutive year. At the North America 2022 edition of the awards held in August, the Star Alliance Los Angeles airport lounge also retained the award for North America's Leading Airport Lounge for the third year running.
This is particularly fitting as Star Alliance celebrated their 25th anniversary last year.
These awards are testimony to the great work that more than 400,000 employees across the Star Alliance network do each day in delivering safe and seamless travel, and also to all the customers who have continued to give Star Alliance and their member carriers confidence and support.
Now in its 29th edition, the World Travel Awards was established to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. The annual awards are awarded based on a worldwide poll of qualified executives working within travel and tourism, and the consumer travel buyer.
In addition to these two awards won at the alliance level, a number of Star Alliance member carriers also came away as individual winners. Nine of them won awards in 21 categories, ranging from World’s Leading Airline – First Class, to Leading Airlines in Europe, Oceania, Asia and Mexico & Central America.
